Off the top
It’s been a while! I’ve had a lot going on between personal projects and work, which has kept me away from the newsletter for a bit. But (*fingers crossed*) things are looking up. I’m moving the newsletter back to a Sunday release, but will be keeping it bi-weekly, for now. Thanks for sticking with me.
With that, I hope you enjoy what I’ve got for you this time around, including some (very) last-minute Oscars picks, a look at some news from this week, and a preview of films and TV shows coming out this week.
The Oscars are tonight! Here’s what will win
I didn’t do great in predicting the films that would be nominated for this year’s biggest film award categories (and I still think Danielle Deadwyler was snubbed for her performance in Till), but maybe my luck will turn in predicting the winners.
The Oscars start tonight at 8 p.m. E.T., on ABC., but for those who are curious, there’s plenty to learn about how the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences brings the show together. Here’s some stories from this week:
— Ever wonder how the Academy picks its winners? This story from The Associated Press breaks down the process for Best Picture voting. Read here →
— For the first time in more than 60 years, the carpet at The Oscars will be something other than red. My friend Sarah Bahr, of The New York Times, has the details on why event organizers opted for a different look this time around. Full story →

One more thing!
I had the privilege of being a guest on The Brendan Fraser Podcast this week to chat with Karla and Daniel about my love of The Mummy, whether Fraser has a shot at The Oscar for his career-defining performance in The Whale, and whether or not I should watch Crash.
It was a blast to be part of the show, and I hope you’ll give it a listen.
